Chair: Juck Somsaman
Founder and Creative Director of The Monk Studios, Thailand
An award-winning film maker and producer with over 26 years of experience in Visual Effects and Animation, Juck Somsaman is a Hollywood VFX veteran who worked with Rhythm and Hues Studio for more than 16 years, and has more than 40 feature film and TV credits.
In 2007, Juck returned to Bangkok, his hometown, bringing his years of experience and technical expertise to Thailand. He founded "The Monk Studios" with the aim of producing high quality entertainment with local and international artists. Under Juck's management, The Monk Studios has gone from strength to strength; initially producing VFX and animation services but quickly becoming internationally known for producing full-service script-to-screen properties.
In recent years, Juck has produced a number of award-winning short films, animated television series, theatrical features, and top end VFX on highly successful international movies.
Co-Chair: Prashant Buyyala
Oriental DreamWorks, China
Prashant Buyyala has over 22 years of experience working in the computer animation and digital VFX industry. He currently serves as a strategic advisor and consultant for Oriental DreamWorks and several other digital content creation organizations around the world.
Previously, Prashant served as the Head of Animation Studio at Oriental DreamWorks where he was responsible for building, guiding and nurturing a brand new, world class animation production studio in China. Prashant helped to build the Shanghai studio’s infrastructure and ramp up a production team to successfully deliver projects like Kung Fu Panda 3.
Prior to DreamWorks Animation, Prashant also headed up the international studios of VFX pioneer Rhythm & Hues Studios. There he was responsible for starting up and running several VFX studios in India, Malaysia and Taiwan and worked on over 50 major Hollywood feature films including 3 feature films that won the Academy Award for best Visual Effects.
Prashant has a Master’s Degree in Engineering Economic Systems & Operations Research from Stanford University and dual undergraduate degrees in both Physics and Economics from Occidental College in Los Angeles. With this background, he has held a broad set of responsibilities during his career, ranging from building probabilistic based financial models which helped run companies, to hiring and managing digital artists, to helping establish core technologies behind the production pipelines.
